Original Discovery

Hi everyone, Over the last few years I’ve made many attempts to build a daily meditation routine—and I keep failing. At first I thought it was just a discipline issue, but by now I believe the problem is different: I’m missing a smart structure within the practice and clear, progressive milestones across weeks and months. In sports, I set intermediate goals, start with simple exercises, and gradually increase complexity (e.g., movement patterns) and intensity (e.g., reps). Progress is easy to feel and measure. With meditation, I can’t seem to replicate that. I don’t have a good structure, I get bored, I don’t see progress, and I lose motivation. What would meaningful goals and intermediate milestones look like in meditation? How can I recognize progress so I can appropriately increase technique and complexity? I know some people say meditation isn’t about goals or expectations. I get that. But in practice you do something—pay attention to the breath, notice sounds, observe feelings, etc. So some orientation would help. Would it make sense to try something like chakra meditation because the chakra framework provides built-in structure you can work through gradually? Or is there a better approach? If you have a book recommendation for a well-structured, progressive meditation routine, I’d love to hear it. Thank you! TL;DR: I don’t think I’m lacking discipline; I’m lacking a structured, progressive plan for meditation. Looking for goals, milestones, ways to track progress, and book tips. Considering chakra meditation for structure—good idea or not?
