Original Discovery

22F, currently around 200lbs, trying to get down to 130lbs. I thought that it would be easier being at home since I would be done school and (very grateful) not have to worry about grocery bills. Turns out not. In my family, we all kind of fend for ourselves for breakfast and lunch, but for dinner, we almost always share a meal. Growing up, it was mainly my mom who would cook this, but we’ve shared this responsibility since I came back. Because I’m trying to lose weight, I measure everything for calorie counting sake when it’s my turn to cook, and I’ve tried to balance out some of our usual meals with more protein and/or fibre. My mom has been really supportive of this—she’s also trying to lose weight, though she doesn’t have as much to go as I do 😅. My dad on the other hand… I love him, but he has always been a picky eater even when my mom cooks, and he complains whenever I tweak an old recipe or try a new one. Oftentimes, he’ll order food in if he’s not satisfied with what I’ve made for dinner. He’s my dad, and I know I have no control over him, but he is also overweight, diabetic, and hypertensive, so the changes I’ve been trying to make dietary-wise would do him good too. And I have tried asking for his input on meals to make, but he never has an answer for me. Because of all of this, I’ve given in to cooking what we’ve always eaten, which has led to me regressing back to bad eating habits overall. Ideally, I would just cook for myself so I could have complete control over the macros and calories (and not have anyone fussing over my cooking), but my mom says that that’s selfish of me. I can understand, but is it also fair for me to cook two separate meals? Literally any advice is appreciated, I’m so tired of being big. I wish I had lost the weight before I moved back so I could avoid all of this.
